I have a specific interest in the treatment of complex trauma. In thirty years of professional practice I have acquired extensive experience in assisting war veterans, sexual abuse victims, victims of crime bush fire victims and emergency service personnel. I adapt my approach and the pace of the work to suit each person I work with. I value the approach adopted by the British Psychological Society’s Power Threat Meaning Framework and the framework put forward by the Blue Knot Foundation.

The application of bottom up approaches that make use of the creative arts and specifically the writing of poetry by survivors to assist trauma recovery is something I encourage. I facilitate patients involvement in creative art work as an aspect of their recovery process.

Writers such as Gregory Orr provide personal testimony on the healing power of poetry. There is also considerable scientific evidence on the healing power of writing, primarily through the work of James Pennybaker from the University of Texas.
